Coffee and Cigarettes de Jim Jarmusch : « No Problem »

Coffee and Cigarettes est un film en noir et blanc de Jim Jarmusch qui regroupe, comme son nom l’indique, 11 sketches dont l’action se situe au-dessus d’un café et pas très loin d’un paquet de cigarettes. Dans cette courte scène en français et en anglais intitulée No Problem, on assiste en fait à un problème de communication… Avant que ne commence le dialogue, Alex (Alex Descas) est assis tout seul à une table, sur laquelle il lance des dés. Isaach (Isaach de Bankolé) arrive derrière lui sans faire de bruit et lui tape sur l’épaule.

ISAACH : Alex!

ALEX : Oh ! Tu m’as fait peur… Comment tu vas Isaac ? Ca va ?

ISAACH : Très bien.

ALEX : Je suis content de te voir.

ISAACH : Oh, j’en avais tellement marre de rester à Paris, tu peux pas savoir !

ALEX : Assis-toi.

ISAACH : So… I was happy to get your call. It’s a long time we didn’t see each other, no?

ALEX : I ordered you some coffee, it’s OK?

ISAACH : Oh, yeah, sure, thanks. So, everything is OK?

ALEX : Yeah. Everything is OK, very good. I’m fine. (Il allume une cigarette, en offre une à Isaac. )

ISAACH : So… Are you sure that everything is OK with you?

ALEX : Yes. Everything is OK. And you?

ISAACH : Me? Ah ah! Things are OK. Not perfect you know, but pretty much OK, yeah.

ALEX : Good. I’m very happy to see you.

ISAACH : I’m happy to see you, man. (Un silence.) It’s just that I didn’t see you for so long… and you called saying you want to see me… I thought maybe something was wrong…

ALEX : No. I just wanted to see you. That’s all.

ISAACH : And me too, man. I wanted to see you too. (Un silence.) Are you sure there is nothing you want to tell me? Nothing bothering you…?

ALEX : But why? Do you want something to be wrong?

ISAACH : Hey! Not at all! When I got your call, I had an intuition that something was bothering you… something maybe… you need to talk about… that’s all!

ALEX : Isaach, there is nothing wrong. Really. OK?

ISAACH : Are you sure…?

ALEX : You’re crazy, Isaach…

ISAACH : Are you sure you have nothing… to… you know… to… let out?

ALEX : Should I invent something bad? I could invent something bad for you…

ISAACH : Oh, no no no no… not at all… Man! I don’t want you to invent something… I’m your best friend, you should feel completely free to tell me truth. To tell me whatever… is bothering you.

ALEX : Oublie toute cette merde, tu veux ?

ISAACH : OK, OK… I understand… That’s cool…

ALEX : Thank you.

ISAACH : There’s no problem…

ALEX : Exact. Il n’y a pas de problème.

Un silence.

ISAACH : Well… I guess I’m gonna go…

ALEX : Really? So soon?

ISAACH: Yeah… You know, man, if you don’t want to talk to me about it, I don’t to be a problem…

ALEX: There is no problem, Isaach. Don’t you understand? No problem.

ISAACH: I understand! But listen, if you don’t want to talk now, call me anytime, OK? Now, maybe it’s not the right time for you, that’s all! (Il se lève et remet sa veste.) So… I was really happy to see you.

ALEX: Yes. Me too. I’m sorry to disappoint you, but there is nothing wrong. really.

ISAACH: It’s OK, guy. I do understand.

ALEX: No. You don’t understand.

ISAACH: Call me if you need, man.

ALEX: See you, Isaach. A bientôt.

Alex ressort ses dés et les lance à nouveau sur la table.
